La Cátedra Fundación Lilly-UCM de Educación Médica decidió proponer la edición del libro de Sir William Osler comentado y anotado por Shigeaki Hinohara, M.D. y Hisae Niki, M.A., titulado Osler´s «A Way of Life» and other Addresses, with Comentary and Annotations, traducido al español por Manuel Fuster Siebert, médico y profundo conocedor de la vida del autor.

El libro es la compilación de 20 discursos, ilustrados con fotografías y grabados de la época, pronunciados por Sir William Osler, seleccionados, comentados y anotados por Shigeaki Hinohara, M.D. y Hisae Niki, M.A.

Se trata de favorecer el conocimiento entre los lectores de habla hispana de una obra -un clásico en los países sajones, en los centroeuropeos y en el Japón- del que para muchos ha sido, y es, el médico que más influyó en la enseñanza y en el desarrollo de la práctica médica en el siglo pasado.

«Un Estilo de Vida» y otros discursos, con comentarios y anotaciones, no es un tratado filosófico; es la simple compilación de discursos y conferencias de un médico clínico amante de la literatura y de la cultura clásica que quiere llegar al corazón de los estudiantes de medicina y de enfermería, de los médicos y de las enfermeras, y de cualquiera que quiera acercarse a sus páginas.
